Andy Rubin will be forever known as one of the great men in the field of mobile wireless technology. His contribution, The Android operating system, one of the most advanced and competitive smartphones available on the market today. He began his career working for Apple Inc. as an engineer. He went to Utica college were he earned a Bachelors in Computer Science. He founded Android, a company which produced an open source operating system for smartphones, which was later bought out by google.  He now serves as Vice President of Engineering at google.

As well as being the pioneer of the Android he is also the founder of Danger Inc. the creators of the “Danger Hip-top”, the product later made famous under the name “T-mobile sidekick”. This phone, still in use today was very unique and ahead of it’s time.

His greatest contribution to the smartphone was the Android operating system. The Android was released to the public in 2007. Now one of the biggest phones on the market, the Android is unique for it’s open source software. With this anybody has the ability to create apps for the phone. This creates a universe of unique and individual applications making any phone with the Android operating system one of the most competitive phones on the market. The versatility of the Android is what really sets it apart. Though the major trade off is that with amateur app’s comes amateur problems, such as virus’ that can seriously disrupt the phone.

This company, founded by Mike Lazaridis, was a privately owned telecommunications and wireless communication company operating out of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The company began in 1984 when it took the Mobitex network and transformed it into a two way paging and wireless email network. After this they began development of another handheld two way paging system. In 1995 the company went public, allowing Five million dollars in Canadian, allowing the company to complete it’s development on what would become known as the Blackberry.  Now RIM  is one of Canada’s top employers and is the fastest growing company in the world, going 84% in just 3 short years despite our recent economic recession.

The genius behind the Blackberry is that it filled a very important need for the corporate world. The corporate scene is one that relies heavily on communication. A company cannot survive in today’s market with out the ability to communicate instantly. They released the Blackberry in 1996 and have been building it up and developing it more since then.

The Blackberry became one of the first mobile phones to combine several different features. Affectionately termed “crackberry” by it’s users, for it’s highly addictive nature, the blackberry has made a huge mark in the world of smartphone. It is a personal communication device allowing the user to make phone calls, send text’s, an respond to multiple email address’s all from one device. It also is a personal digital assistant (pda) allowing the user to create a calendar, form to-do  lists and keep him/herself organized. In addition to this, the blackberry is also a personal media device. Instead of being just business you can use the blackberry to play games, browse the web, or even store music and other media.
